Data Management & QA/QC Specialist

Hydrometrics is seeking an entry-level to mid-level Data Management & QA/QC Specialist to work on interesting and challenging projects in our Billings, Montana office. Advance your career with our interdisciplinary group of scientists and engineers supporting a wide variety of projects in Montana and the Intermountain Region.

What You Will Do…

  • Work on complex and interesting projects, including: Groundwater characterization and remediation; Water resource development; Mining hydrogeology and permitting; and Environmental Assessments

  • Work directly with project managers and lead technical scientists and engineers

  • Actively communicate and coordinate with project managers, laboratories, and other team members

  • Data Management

    • Data entry

    • Manage and organize laboratory, field, spatial and geological data to ensure quality and consistency

    • Manually check against original documents (verification)

    • Manage large databases for chemical analyses

    • Organize data for easy access, querying, and retrieval

    • Develop data reports, graphs, statistical summaries, and other supporting materials for detailed data analysis, interpretation, and reporting

    • Assist in developing standards and procedures for data management process improvements

  • Quality Control and Quality Assurance and Data Validation

    • Collaborate on project work plans including the preparation and implementation of Quality Assurance Project Plans (QAPPs)

    • Review environmental analytical data for completeness and compliance against analytical methods and QAPPs

    • Perform critical review of laboratory analytical data packages and validate analytical data using Federal and State guidelines. Data validation includes, but is not limited to, a review of raw data, initial and continuing calibrations, quality control (QC) summary forms, preparation and extraction information, sample chromatograms, Chain-of-Custody records, laboratory Case Narratives, and qualitative and quantitative assessment of results

    • Review field and/or laboratory QC samples and apply data validation qualifiers to sample results as appropriate

    • Prepare Data Validation Reports

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative or technical field such as computer science, data analytics, chemistry, environmental science, or other scientific discipline with an emphasis on data management

  • Up to 7 years of progressively responsible job experience in environmental consulting including data collection and management; data validation and quality control review; data interpretation, analysis, and reporting

  • Professional or institutional experience working with relational databases and managing large datasets

  • Proficiency with MS Excel

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • High level of attention to detail

  • Ability to successfully complete tasks both independently and collaboratively

Preferred

  • Knowledge of water quality concepts and applications

  • Experience with site investigations and remediation, including groundwater, surface water, sediment, soil, and vapor intrusion investigations

  • Familiarity with regulatory guidelines and understanding of current U.S. EPA data validation guidelines, quality programs, and environmental analytical methods

  • Strong knowledge of federal and state environmental laws and regulations under federal, state, and other cleanup programs

  • Industrial, laboratory, or regulatory experience

  • Experience in developing and implementing quality assurance project plans

  • Proficiency with data management software such as EnviroData, EQuIS, or other MS Access or MS SQL systems

Location: Billings, MT, in person (required)

Job Type: Full-Time, In Person, M-F 

Pay: $55k-$70k per year (depending on experience)
